Tirobhava-tithi of Prabhupada Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Gosvami Thakura
On Thursday 30th December, the disappearance of Jagad-guru Sri Srimad Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada was observed by the devotees at Sri Narasingha Caitanya Matha.

After offering arati and puspanjali to Srila Sarasvati Thakura, devotees sang 'Je anilo prema dhana' and other bhajanas in glorification of His Divine Grace. Bhakti Vijnana Giri Maharaja then spoke on the life of Srila Sarasvati Thakura and in particular discussed his last instructions.

A sumptuous feast was cooked in honor of Srila Sarasvati Thakura and devotees took prasadam at midday.

November 2004

Final Day of Karttika Masa
The final day of Karttika-masa was celebrated by all the devotees at Govindaji Gardens. The last day of Karttika also commemorates the anniversary of the founding of Govindaji Gardens and Sri Narasingha Caitanya Matha by Srila B.G. Narasingha Maharaja and Srila B.B. Visnu Maharaja. This years anniversary marked the completion of ten years since the Matha began in 1994.

Special preparations were offered to the Deities in observance of the occasion. In the evening, devotees sang the Damodarastakam and offered lamps to the Deities and held an extended bhajana session.

Tirobhava Tithi of Srila Bhakti Pramoda Puri Maharaja
The holy disappearance day of HDG Srila Bhakti Pramoda Puri Maharaja was observed on Thursday 25th November. In the morning devotees offered puspanjali to the lotus feet of Srila Puri Gosvami Maharaja as Sripada Visnu Maharaja performed arati.

Sripada Visnu Maharaja then gave class about the life of Srila Puri Maharaja and especially elaborated upon Srila Puri Maharaja's attachment to chanting the Holy Name of the Lord.

Sri Srimad Gaura-kisora Dasa Babaji Maharaja Tirobhava
The disappearance day of Avadhuta-siromani Sri Srila Gaura-kisora Dasa Babaji Maharaja was observed at Sri Narasingha Caitanya Matha on Monday 22nd November.

After offering guru-puja and puspanjali to Srila Babaji Maharaja, the devotees sat to here Sripada Visnu Maharaja speak on some of the divine pastimes of Srila Gaura-kisora Dasa Babaji from the biography 'Parama-guru Sri Gaura-kisora'. After, Giri Maharaja read from Srila Sridhara Maharaja's Sanskrit composition Sri Sri Gaura-kisora Namaskara Dasakam.

The Biography of Srila Gaura-kisora Dasa Babaji Maharaja, composed from the reflections of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada, is available online as well as prayers to Srila Gaura-kisora by Srila Sridhara Maharaja.

Observance of Srila Prabhupada's Tirobhava Tithi
On Tuesday 16th November, asrama and congregational devotees from Mysore, Bangalore and Mandya observed the disappearance day of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

After decorating Srila Prabhupada's Puspa-samadhi in the morning, devotees gathered to hear Srila Visnu Maharaja speak. Maharaja first explained the song 'Je Anilo Prema Dhana' by Thakura Narottama Dasa and then spoke on the famous verse of Sri Raghunatha Dasa Gosvami:

sunyayitam mahagostham girindvo ajgaraye te
vyaghra tundaya te kundam jivatu rahitasya me

"In the absence of the sustainer of my life (Sri Guru), Vraja seems completely empty and desolate, Govardhana Hill seems like a huge python ready to devour me and even Sri Radha-kunda seems to be like the gaping mouth of a ferocious tiger." (Prathanasraya-caturdasakam 11)

At midday, Srila Narasingha Maharaja led the devotees in singing Ohe Vaisnava Thakura and Srila Prabhupada Lila Smarana Mangala Stotram. He then spoke on how the appearance and disappearance of the spiritual master are considered non-different and further explained Srila Prabhupada's unique contribution to the world. He also spoke about the importance of accepting diksa from sat-guru and explained who is a krpa-siddha (a disciple who attains perfection by the mercy of Sri Guru).

At midday, bhoga was offered to Srila Prabhupada and devotees offered puspanjali while Visnu Maharaja offered aratika to His Divine Grace and Srila Narasingha Maharaja sang Sri Guru Carana Padma. Devotees then honored a maha-prasadam feast.

At 7:20 in the evening (the time when Srila Prabhupada entered nitya-lila), all the devotees gathered at the Samadhi where Srila Narasingha Maharaja offered maha-aratika as the devotees sang the arati song to Srila Prabhupada.

Observance of Karttika Masa

damodaram prapadye 'ham sri radha-ramanam prabhum
prabhavad yasya tat presthah karttikah sevito bhavet

" I surrender to the Supreme Lord who was tied around the waist with a rope, and Who is the lover of Sri Radha. By His power one is able to serve His favorite month of Karttika." (Hari-Bhakti-vilasa 16.1)

The holy month of Karttika is currently being observed at the matha. At twilight, devotees light lamps and candles around the temples of Radha-Madhava, Giriraja, Nrsimha and Srila Prabhupada's puspa-samadhi as well as around Govinda Kunda.

They then gather to sing Sri Damodarastakam and other bhajanas while offering dipams to Sri Sri Radha-Damodara.

Sri Govardhana Puja Celebrations

saptaham evacyuta hasta-pankaje bhrngamanam phala-mula-kandaraih
samsevyamanam harim atma-vrndakair govardhanaadrim sirsa namami

"I bow my head to Sri Govardhana, who rested upon the lotus-had of Lord Acyuta for seven days, who is surrounded by the humming of bumble-bees, and who expertly serves Hari and His dearest associates by providing caves and gardens which supply an abundance of a variety of flowers for their enjoyment." (Srila Sanatana Gosvami)

Sri Narasingha Caitanya Matha celebrated the most auspicious occasion of Sri Govardhana Puja on Saturday 13th November. About 100 devotees and guests took part in the festival including Mr. Chudiah, MLA for Mandya District.

The morning was spent in decorating Sri Sri Radha-Madhava and Giriraja by the pujaris, then at midday following the morning Deity arati, Srila Narasingha Maharaja spoke on Govardhana-lila from Bhagavatam. Maharaja also explained to the guests the preeminent position of Sri Krsna as opposed to the Devas and illustrated this by telling how Indra's pride was crushed by the Lord during His pastime of lifting Govardhana.

After the lecture, the devotees and guests assembled at Govardhana Hill and bathed Giriraja with milk and rose-water. After the abhiseka, devotees all brought bhoga from the kitchen and placed the items in front of Giriraja for His transcendental pleasure. Srila Visnu Maharaja then offered arati to the Lord as Madhava Maharaja led the devotees in singing 'Yasomati-nandana.' Lastly, everyone circumambulated Govardhana Hill and made their way to the prasadam hall to honor Sri Giriraja's remnants.

Appearance Celebrations of Srila Sridhara Deva Gosvami Maharaja
Devotees of Sri Narasingha Caitanya Matha celebrated the divine appearance of om Visnupada Sri Srila Bhakti Raksaka Sridhara Deva Gosvami Maharaja on Saturday 6th November.

In the morning, Srila Narasingha Maharaja offered guru-puja to Srila Sridhara Maharaja as devotees offered puspanjali. Visnu Maharaja then gave class on the unique contributions of Srila Sridhara Maharaja to the Gaudiya sampradaya. At midday all the devotees honored a sumptuous feast. Again in the evening, Srila Visnu Maharaja spoke to devotees and guests about Srila Sridhara Maharaja's life and pastimes.

Appearance Day of Srila Bhakti Bhavana Visnu Maharaja
Tuesday 2nd of November saw the 61st appearance day of Srila Bhakti Bhavana Visnu Maharaja. Devotees in the asrama assembled in the morning to offer their respects by performing puspanjali and sang 'Ohe Vaisnava Thakura' by Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura. Maharaja then spoke from Srimad Bhagavatam about the qualities of a Vaisnava. At midday the devotees observed a feast in Maharaja's honor.
