July 2003

Puri Ratha Yatra
Sannyasis: Srila Narasingha Maharaja, Madhava Maharaja, Avadhuta Maharaja, Babaji Maharaja and Mukunda Prabhu from Govindaji Gardens attended this years Ratha Yatra in Jagannatha Puri (July 1st).

This was reported to have been the biggest Ratha Yatra festival in the past one hundred years - with crowds of more than several hundred thousand devotees of Jagannatha.

Narasingha Maharaja commented that more kirtan groups chanted the pancha-tattva mantra and the maha-mantra at this year's Ratha Yatra than at any Ratha Yatra that he had been to previously.

The devotees from Govindaji Gardens were guests of the Gajapati Maharaja of Puri and viewed the Ratha procession from the palace roof along with other dignified guests and devotees.

At the end of Ratha Yatra, Madhava Maharaja and Avadhuta Maharaja presented the Gajapati Maharaja with a set of all the DevaVision video documentaries on VCD (Kumbha Mela, Gandaki, Art of Sadhana, Absolute Harmony, and the Holy Name).

While the devotees were in Puri, Srila Narasingha Maharaja made arrangement for the Deity of Patita-pavana Jagannatha (5 feet 8 inches height) to be sent to Govindaji Gardens in South India. The Deity is expected to arrive at Govindaji Gardens at the end of July.

Tumcur Program
Devotees of the Sri Narasingha Caitanya Math recently visited the ISTE, The Indian Society for Technical Education at Siddhartha Institute of Technology, Tumkur, Karnataka, India, for a presentation by Swami B B Visnu of the Powerpoint Presentation: “ SCIENTIFIC VERIFICATION OF THE VEDIC LITERATURE, ” Modern High Tech Research Techniques reveal highly developed scientific content of the Vedas and verify Vedic sanskrit statements. Future presentations of the Vedic Science Club will be available online.

The devotees also visited the ancient Laksmi Narasingha temples of Bhoga Narasingha and Yoga Narasingha on the scenic Devarayana Durga mountain near Tumkur.

The Bhoga Narasingha Deity at the base of the mountain was installed by Durvasa Muni two thousand years ago and the Deity of Yoga Narasingha situated high on the mountain top was installed by Lord Brahma. The temples were renovated by Ramanujacarya 800 years ago and are well maintained.

 

May 2003

Narasingha Caturdasi
Narasingha Caturdasi was celebrated at Narasingha Caitanya Matha with the opening of the new temple for Lord Narasingha Deva. The main Deity of Yoga Narasingha will not be ready for installation until after Janmastami of this year.

In the meantime the small Utsava Deity of Yoga Narasingha was moved from Srila Narasingha Maharaja's kutir to the Narasingha Guha (the Lord's new temple). Also the large Narasingha Saligram and twelve smaller Narasingha Saligrams worshipped only by sannyasis and brahmacharies were also moved to the new temple.

Homa and abhisheka were preformed for the pleasure of the Deity and sankirtan was held and maha-prasadam was distributed to all the devotees and guests.

Candana Yatra
Candana Yatra is being observed at Sri Narasingha Caitanya Matha for the month of May. Daily the Deities are anointed with candana and in this way the Deity is kept cool during the summer heat.
